The damask tablecloth in the iconic H.C. Andersen design is filled with the joy of storytelling. It stands out as a poetic as well as elegant feature of a table setting and is now being introduced in a new and gorgeous shade of grey.
The H.C. Andersen tablecloth is a beloved classic of the collection, re-launched in the 1990s and often used for birthdays or other special occasions.
The new colour, Zinc, is as soft-toned as it is classic. In addition to blending beautifully into modern Scandinavian décor, the colour showcases the fairy tale motifs in a way that makes them clearly visible, to the delight of both children and adults. Side by side on the tablecloth, an array of Hans Christian Andersen’s unforgettable fairy tales and intricate papercuttings are woven into the fabric for a diverse narrative that creates a very special atmosphere at the table. Matching napkins in the same classic tone complete the look.
Hans Christian Andersen is famous for his contributions to world literature, but he was also an accomplished papercut artist. Architect and designer Knud V. Engelhardt began working on the design of Hans Christian Andersen’s papercuttings in the 1920s. This was a design that Inger M. Blegvad Klint carried on after the architect’s death in 1931 and which was completed and ready for launch in 1952, when Queen Ingrid placed the first of many orders for the Danish royal family. Since then, the design has been adjusted and developed continuously in line with new weaving techniques and has been adjusted to ensure that the pattern continues to have a contemporary look.
The H.C. Andersen design can also be found on our placemats, which feature some of the most beloved fairy tale motifs from the tablecloth.
