Behind the design

Georg Jensen Damask’s dedicated design team works continuously to develop our collection of textiles - inspired by daily life, the craft and our historical archive of weaves and patterns. Over the years, we have also worked closely with some of the leading designers in the Nordic region, and our collection includes designs by Arne Jacobsen, Cecilie Manz, Bent Georg Jensen, Bodil Bødtker-Næss, Jette Nevers and John Becker.

Arne Jacobsen

Architect Arne Jacobsen’s love of textiles is not as well-known as his modernist furniture design and architecture.

Bent Georg Jensen

In the post-World War II era and for ensuing decades, the enterprising textile engineer and designer played an important role in Georg Jensen Damask's transformation from village weaving mill to design company, and was responsible for some of Georg Jensen Damask's most important classics.

Weaver and designer Bodil Bødtker-Næss (1942-1988) is a prominent name in Danish textile art, and has created some of Georg Jensen Damask's most iconic motifs.

Designer Cecilie Manz (born 1972) is responsible for a wide portfolio of contemporary furniture art, lamp design, textile design, and industrial design.

Jette Nevers

Jette Nevers (born 1943) graduated from the Design School Copenhagen in 1965. After her graduation, she opened her own workshop and she was known for her simple naturally coloured shawls and ponchos.

In 1958, John Becker and Bent Georg Jensen both travelled to see the Finnish Weaver Dora Jung, and shortly after John Becker’s first design for Georg Jensen Damask, Calypso, was launched.
